Latest News from the Club:
- updated August 29, 2010 -
The monthly meeting of the SBRGA was held on
Tuesday, August 24th 2010. Thirteen new members were voted in to the Club. Range
Safety Orientation was held on Saturday, August 28th. The monthly work party was
also held on Saturday. Much thanks to those who volunteered to help keep the
range operating in a safe and enjoyable manner. We lost a fair amount of
sandbags at the end of the containment berm on the Pistol Range during the
rainstorm last week. The work party filled and stacked about twenty sandbags to
repair the berm, but more work is needed. There will be a new supply of
sandbags, cable ties, and a couple shovels in the Pistol house next week. Anyone
who would like to help out, please feel free to fill a sandbag or two and add to
the stack. It is appreciated by all members who use the range. If we lose the
end of the berm, then the Pistol Range will have to be closed until there is a
special work party to get the berm repaired. Keep in mind that our dues are low
because we are a volunteer based club. We depend on you for everything from
plywood scraps for target boards to the mowing of the grounds. Members who
volunteer for the work party may deduct $2 per hour, up to fifteen hours, off
their membership dues next year.
Thanks to all those who put forth a great effort in reviving the Archery Range
at the Club. New target frames were built and stuffed with backup materials and
new targets installed. Anyone interested in starting up an Archery program,
please attend a meeting and present your ideas. We'd like to hear them.
The 30 Guns in 30 Days Raffle is in full swing. The Club will have a table at
the Kittery Trading Post on the gun floor during Septemberfest to sell tickets.
We must be present during the hours of operation from September 6th through
September 12th. The hours are 9am to 9pm Monday through Saturday, and 10am to
6pm Sunday. As most of us work during the day, this is a special call to those
who can volunteer during the daytime hours (Retired, 2nd Shift workers, etc.).
As with the work party, members who volunteer may deduct $2 per hour, up to
fifteen hours, off their membership dues next year. This is our major fund
raiser for the club, and thanks go to all those who help out in this effort.
The Boy Scouts of Troop 338 will be hosting a Hunter's Breakfast on Saturday,
November 6th from 5:30am until about 9am at the Clubhouse. Anyone interested in
helping out with this, please let us know by either attending the September
meeting of the SBRGA, or visit www.troop338maine.org and click on the link to
"send us feedback". It was a success last year, and this year should be a bigger
and better event.
Normal Trap Range hours are Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm, and Thursday
from noon until about 8pm. The cost for a round of trap is $4 and is open to the
public during those times. For members who would like to use the Trap Range at
other times with their own launching devices, please observe the following:
Please set up and launch clay targets forward of the green trap machine bunker,
near the end of the fence. All other range safety rules apply; red flag must be
raised, eye and hearing protection must be worn, shot size limited to #6 thru
#9, clean area of spent shells.
Monthly meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm at the
Clubhouse. Those wishing to become members of the Club, please plan to arrive by
at least 7pm so we may process your application.
The next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 28th at 7:30pm. All
members are encouraged to attend.
